parture of the Governor from the Colony, it is perhaps right that I should inform Your Lordship that before Sir William Robinson left, I ascertained from him that he had no objection to my leaving the Colony before his return, in the event of my becoming incapacitated and being obliged to transfer the administration to the General.
I have recently been completely incapacitated by a very sharp attack of fever, and as I am constantly on the edge of a fever, and not unfrequently incapacitated by fever, owing to the deleterious effect of the climate of Hongkong on my constitution, my incapacitation during the absence of the Governor is not improbable.
It is my intention to spend the four months' vacation leave which I have prospectively obtained from the Governor in Ceylon.
